Nicola : a powerful VBAC

Nicola and family welcome little Deja

“Late last year I attended the VBAC panel night (part of Birthtalk’s VBAC Course)  and earlier in the year the Facts and Stats night. I found both very informative and encouraging. The night of the panel on my way home I had a very very minor car accident and I’m sure this is when my baby turned. I was gutted to think that my VBAC plans were turning pear shaped. I had her turned successfully a few weeks later (phew).

On the 9th Dec 3:37pm I had my little girl after a long labour but I managed without any interventions and feel absolutely fantastic now. Deja is settling in really well and I can’t believe how amazing the whole experience has been.

Thank you so much for the wonderful information you gave me on both the VBAC facts and Stats night as well as the VBAC Panel. I really enjoyed both sessions and drew on much of the information throughout my pregnancy.

I had a long labour, 36hrs start to finish, with Deja, but it was worth every minute. My husband and mother-in-law were my support. My husband was fantastic and his mother couldn’t have been more encouraging.

I know I will never forgot the details and feelings of that magical day. The power of those labour/delivery hormones are incredible, I’m so glad I was able to experience the rush! Deja was completely calm throughout the labour and although I was very tired and had times of feeling like I can’t do this, I did! And to have gotten through that barrier in my mind was unbelievable. I got very ‘poor me’ and angry at everyone (transition!!) and then started saying to myself, “ I can do this”. I felt like the little red engine that could. I think I can, I think I can, I will, I will. I was literally thinking that towards the end! Getting through it minute by minute, which for me was very different to how I usually think. If I’m having a bad day with the children now, I sometimes think back to that time and just try to get through one step at a time.

All in all it was a wonderful and although I was a little bit tender in the first 2-3 days, the recovery was so much quicker than my c-section. I felt strong straight away.

Thanks again for putting on such a great service. I tell everyone I know who had a c-section to look into your course before making any decisions.”
